Bulgarian
used currency is called "lev" (BGN). A tradition of using
our own currency kept Bulgarian culture through hard years of economy
development and kept the economy almost stable and in increasing stages.
Bulgarian Lev is currency very expensive in the previous ages, but in
the year of 1997 in crashed and lost nearly 4-5 times its value. Then
into the country economy was put a monetary border, which caught the
lev with the German mark then with a a fixed course 1 by 1. In these
years the lev was also
denominated and lost 3 zeros from its currency. The period of economy
crash broke 1 government and left a lot of people without nothing. Thousands
of levs were lost just for a day of many Bulgarian (just like in Germany
after the Second World War). The inflation was terrible and the economy
is not so secure, now 10 years later.
Now Bulgarian Lev is fixed value of 1.95 BGN about
1 EUR. The fixed value is still keeping the economy of Bulgaria is good
level in European rate. With this Bulgaria entered into European Union
and soon is expected to get the EUR for official currency into the country.
The larget banknote printed from Bulgarian National Bank is 100 levas.
There are also bankonet of 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 levas. So be careful
in exchanges of Bulgarian currencies and don't get any other bankonotes.
